FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The NCDNPE has a great FAQ which covers most frequently asked questions specific to homeschooling in North Carolina. General FAQs and those specific to homeschooling in Martin County are listed below.
But what about socialization?
One of the common homeschooling myths. And not at all true. Homeschoolers are involved in many activities through church, participation in sports, lessons, and field trips. The exposure to varying age groups and social experiences exceeds that of their public school peers, who are isolated by age and more likely to be subject to peer pressure and immaturity.
Can I homeschool for free?
Nearly free. If you already have internet access and basic school supplies, curriculum resources are abundant online and at your local library. One of the most popular free online courses is Easy Peasy All-in-One Homeschool.
Your only mandatory cost is an annual nationally standardized achievement test, which can be found online for under $30.
Of course, you can choose to spend as little or as much as you want on curriculum and extracurricular activities.
Is involvement in Martin County Homeschool Group free?
As a 501(c)7 organization, we do have annual dues. For the 2019-2020 year, they are only $10 for your whole school/family. There are no other charges for being a member. We have free events and activities all throughout the year. For certain activities, such as museum trips, an admission fee may be charged by the venue.
